Yangquan is connected with Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, to its west, connected with Shijizhuan, the capital of Hebei Province, to its east, whilst the Buddhism holy land, Wutaishan and Daizhai lies to its north and south. Beijing is 390 kilometers away and the important seaport of Tianjin is 550 kilometers, and these, along with many other locations are well-connected by rail networks. Shi-Tai (Shijiazhuang to Taiyuan) electric railway runs through the urban area of Yangquan from east to west and Yang-She (Yangquan to Shexian) railway line passes through Yangquan from south to north. The ShengHuang railway line will also have its stops in Yangquan. The first express railway which is presently under construction will be finished and put into operation by the end of 2008. Yangquan has become a railway hub linking with Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan cities as well as Henan, Hebei, and Shanxi Provinces. The highways also extend in all directions within Yangquan area.
